Makeup Lesson Hanoi Old Quarter for Foreigners

By the Vietnam Makeup Artist team · 2026-11-06

Our 1-to-1 makeup lessons in Hanoi's Old Quarter run 1–3 hours in English, taught by our senior makeup artists at Vietnam Makeup Artist by Cáo MakeUp. Each session covers foundation matching for your skin tone, humidity-resistant application, and techniques for heat-prone climates—essential in Hanoi's tropical weather. We work one-on-one so you learn at your pace, practice on your own face, and leave with a skill set that survives a full day. The lesson includes a trial run and product recommendations tailored to your skin. We serve Western, mixed, and deeper skin tones with undertone-matching expertise. Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp; cost depends on lesson length and whether you add a photoshoot or event makeup application. Book at least 3–5 days ahead to secure your preferred time.

What makes Hanoi Old Quarter the ideal lesson location for tourists?

The Old Quarter sits in central Hanoi with easy access from most hotels and is quieter in early morning or late afternoon. We meet you in a calm, air-conditioned studio space within the neighborhood, avoiding noise and rush. Natural light and controlled humidity help you see makeup clearly and practice techniques that actually work in outdoor heat. The compact area means no long travel time—you stay fresh and focused on learning. Choosing an Old Quarter venue keeps you near your accommodation and tourist sites, so you can practice your new makeup for dinner or a day out immediately afterward.

How does heat and humidity change the makeup technique you'll learn?

Hanoi's climate is hot and humid year-round, so standard makeup applied dry won't survive 8 hours outdoors. We teach you primer choice, foundation type (water-resistant or silicone-based formulas hold longer), and setting powder placement that stops shine without looking heavy. You'll learn a spray or mist technique to lock makeup in place, how to build color in thin layers, and which products separate from skin in humidity versus staying put. We show you blotting without disturbing base, cream versus powder eyeshadow for lid crease, and waterproof liner application. By the end, you understand why each step matters in tropical weather, not just how to do it. This knowledge transfers to any humid climate—practical for your next trip or daily Hanoi life.

How do we match undertones for Western and mixed skin types?

Undertone matching is the first step because wrong undertone makes any shade look ashy or sallow, no matter how well you blend. We assess your skin undertone by looking at your inner wrist veins, jawline, and how jewelry metals suit you—gold, silver, or rose gold tells us a lot. For Western skin, we often find cool, warm, or neutral undertones; for mixed or deeper skin, undertones are equally varied and just as easy to miss. We'll show you how to identify your own undertone using natural light, then pick foundation, blush, and lip color that harmonize with it. You'll leave knowing your undertone and having a mental checklist for shopping independently. This single skill saves you from buying makeup that clashes with your natural coloring, even when traveling and buying at different shops.

What does a typical lesson schedule look like on the day?

Arrival & skin assessment (10–15 min): You arrive, we ask about your makeup goals, skin type, any sensitivities, and what you struggle with now. We check your skin in natural light and may cleanse it lightly.

Primer and base application (20–30 min): We demo primer choice for Hanoi heat, guide you through foundation matching on your face (showing you how to blend and check in daylight), and teach concealer placement and setting powder technique.

Eyes and brows (20–30 min): Eyeshadow blending, liner application (liquid or pencil—your choice), mascara, and brow shape and fill specific to your face.

Lips, contour, and highlight (15–20 min): Lip liner and color, subtle contouring or blush placement, and highlight placement that suits Hanoi's bright natural light without looking overdone.

Practice and Q&A (remaining time): You practice one area while we watch, offer real-time feedback, and answer questions about product choices and daily maintenance in humidity.

Product recommendations: We suggest specific types (not brands we don't stock) that survive heat and suit your budget. Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp to confirm lesson length and whether you want follow-up advice via email or WhatsApp.

Which lesson length is right for you—1, 2, or 3 hours?

Lesson lengthBest forIncludesConclusion
1 hourQuick refresher or one skill (e.g., base only, or eyes only)One or two techniques, product chat, no full faceSuits experienced makeup wearers adding one new skill.
2 hoursFull face makeup learning, beginner to intermediateBase, eyes, brows, lips, setting tips, Q&AMost popular; enough time to practice each area once.
3 hoursBeginners or those wanting deep practiceFull face, redo sections, multiple product trials, extended Q&ALets you repeat techniques and feel genuinely confident.

Our makeup class page shows availability; we offer morning, afternoon, and early evening slots to fit your travel schedule. If you're in Hanoi for a special event, we can combine a lesson with event makeup application or photoshoot makeup guidance so you practice and then wear your look the same day. For brides, we also offer bridal makeup lessons with a full wedding-morning trial run—more complex but invaluable if you want to supervise your own look or touch up during the day.

What do you need to prepare and bring to your lesson?

Bring any makeup you already own—brushes, products, palettes—so we can assess what you have and show you how to use it better. If you own nothing, we provide demo products during the session (these are not sold to you). Wear clothes you don't mind getting makeup on; bring a headband or clip to keep hair back. Use the bathroom before arrival so you're comfortable for 1–3 hours. If you have sensitive skin, bring a list of products you react to, or tell us when you arrive. Most importantly, come with honest feedback: if a technique feels awkward or you don't like a color choice, tell us—we adjust the lesson to fit your comfort and goals.

On the day of your lesson, arrive 5–10 minutes early so we can start on time. We work in an air-conditioned space, so bring a water bottle (we also provide water). If you wear contact lenses, bring solution and a case so you can remove them during the lesson—it's much easier to learn without contacts. After the lesson, your makeup is on your face, ready to wear out to dinner or back to your hotel. We'll send you a follow-up WhatsApp message with product recommendations and answers to any questions you think of later.

What to check before you book your makeup lesson

Confirm timing: Hanoi Old Quarter is busier 10 am–5 pm. Early morning (7–9 am) and early evening (5–7 pm) lessons are quieter and have better natural light for makeup matching.

Language: We teach in English; if you prefer another language, ask when you contact us.

Skin concerns: Tell us about acne, eczema, or other conditions upfront so we avoid triggering products or techniques.

Product allergies: List any ingredients you avoid (e.g., fragrance, oil, silicone) before booking.

Makeup goals: Be specific—"everyday natural look," "bold evening," "photoshoot-ready"—so we tailor the lesson.

Lesson length & price: Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp; mention your goals and desired length so we give you an accurate estimate.

Follow-up access: Ask if you can message us after the lesson with product questions or to share photos of your makeup.

For lessons paired with Korean-style makeup or hotel makeup service on your wedding day or event, we can arrange package pricing—ask when you get your initial quote. We also offer group and bridesmaids lessons if you're traveling with friends or a wedding party.
